Traveling is a very exciting lifestyle and for most of us the reward from work when we have the yearly holiday. People usually already book their holidays way in advance, others spontaneously and others have to even skip the holiday because of moving, purchase of a new car, house or somewhat. I TRAVEL FOREVER has raised the bar and on the way onto plane without knowing where the plane was taking him. Here you can read about this special experience and the benefits.
The usual first step before traveling is: Planning
The probably best benefit of traveling into the unknown is when you travel into the unknown that you don’t need to take care of this, which is a beautiful feeling. There is no planning to do or whatsoever, nor any decisions to make. I love it as you don’t have to worry about this part. For me, the part that is probably the most time consuming and I happily give that away. For me it doesn’t matter where I get taken, just travel.
The research
This is the part I know many people consume a lot of time in to know where to go and what to do. Personally, like you can also read in the About or FAQ section, I don’t plan anything in advance because I just turn up and get inspired by the locals but if I would do the research traveling into the unknown would be a benefit because you don’t know what or where to research, hence no need to stress in advance.
Packing
No matter where I go I have my selected things that I put into my backpack. I never worry about my clothing because in case you need something, there is always a store to buy it. So no benefit for the packing but still wanted to list in order to share how I behave in different situations.
THE EXPERIENCE
The challenges on the way keeping the destination a secret
Today is a surprise destination for I TRAVEL FOREVER. Standing here at the check-in with my headphones in listening to music and trying to not find out where the journey ends. Might even have to make the women aware from the counter not to tell me.
Moment on the airport arriving / before departure
The first big challenge to keep the travel destination a secret is when checking-in at the check-in counter and all the signs stating where you are going, sometimes even the notifications through the megaphone. I still didn’t know where I was going because I listened to music and I was standing with my back to the counter whilst waiting in the queue looking down on the floor.
Other hints I realised could potentially be:
- seeing the name of the airline (because I know many flight connections for certain airlines)
- hearing the language people speak in the waiting line
- hearing the stewardess announcing on the plane through the speakers
- seeing the map on the screens, if available
It was my turn to go to the check-in counter next and on my way there I kept my head down and then told the women behind the counter to not tell me where the trip is going as it was a surprise travel trip into the unknown. It must have looked so stupid because I honestly was acting very weird and so it must have been strange for the women to see me trying to avoid eye contact (still looking on the floor because I didn’t want to see the sign). The women behind the counter laughed and said that it’s a nice place and that I will like it. Continuing to the gate, I recommend not to sit somewhere across the hall because there would be the risk of seeing a sign. I also continued listening to music and, as I didn’t want to hear the announcing voice about boarding time.
Successfully also managed to get through the gate area on the way onto the plane. I was feeling very relaxed, very excited for this adventure and the best part without any expectations, which I think is also a very big benefit when traveling into the unknown.
Next was waiting in the line about to hop onto the plane. It was this one moment when my eye was caught by the airport code BCN of the plane ticket in the pocket shirt of another German guy behind us. I knew right away what it meant and could not keep it quiet but it was definitely a very nice surprise. My recommendation here would be not to look around whilst waiting.
I TRAVEL FOREVER’s VIEW & RECOMMENDATION
I think it can be summarised that traveling into an unknown place is only really possible if you have someone that organises it for you – sad face. It might be of good recommendation to actually wear sleeping googles and listen to very loud music all the time. I think it would look strange but hey why not do something outside the box and comfort zone sometimes.
Well, I absolutely loved the experience and wished it would have worked all the way. One big advantage is definitely that you don’t have any expectations or stress about the destination because you don’t know where you go. Have you ever been put on a plane or traveled to a destination without knowing where you would end up ? I would fly anywhere. What about you ?
There are many different ways of traveling, I TRAVEL FOREVER likes travel challenges for making new experiences. This trip inspired me with so many more ideas for the future travels.
