After traveling around South Africa (ZA) for about three weeks, time has come to an end already and I just started to liking it so much and getting used to be here. It is definitely clear that all the people I’ve met along my journey in ZA made it an unforgettable visit for me and I have hope to see some of them at a later point in my life again.
I actually underestimated the things a beautiful continent like Africa has to offer and I’ll need to come back to see more. I have listed some of my personal must do’s and recommend hostels while traveling in South Africa for you. You will be surprised about my opinion about the “famous” Garden Route.
Top 11 things to do in South Africa:
1. Cape Town: Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Robben Island
2. Cape of Good Hope
3. Wine tasting at Stellenbosch
4. Whale watching and diving with great white sharks in Hermanus/Gaansbai
5. Ride an ostrich (max. 75kg) in Oudtshoorn, taste it after
6. ‘Map of Africa’ in Wilderness
7. Surf, relax and beerpong in Jeffrey’s Bay
8. Hiking to Lesotho or Amphitheatre mountain to see the 2nd highest Tugela waterfall in the world in Drakensberg
9. Safari at Kruger National Park
10. Blyde River Canyon
11. 2-day in Jo’burg: eat a kota, Apartheid Museum, Gandhi Square, CBD.

My opinion about the “famous” Garden Route
The Garden Route, which stretches from Mossel Bay to Tsitsikamma is in my opinion overrated and doesn’t really feel like you are in Africa because it’s very Western European, crowded with tourists but not as much as Cape Town tho.
Top accommodation recommendations (not being sponsored to mention any of these places):
- Long Street Backpackers in Cape Town
- Island Vibe Surf Camp in Jeffrey’s Bay
- Amphitheatre Lodge in Drakensberg
- Tekweni Backpackers in Durban
- Bob’s Bunk House in Jo’burg (near airport)

Some other famous places, which you may want to visit:
- Mossel Bay
- Buffalo Bay
- Addo Elephant Park
- Coffee Bay
On my next trip I’ll definitely travel to:
- Eat and ride an ostrich (I was to heavy to do it this time)
- Johannesburg
- Botswana
- Mozambique
- Tanzania
- Zanzibar
- Madagascar
- Kenya
- Uganda

I TRAVEL FOREVER’s VIEW & RECOMMENDATION
South Africa is an amazing country with a lot of culture and so worth to visit. Don’t get paranoid about the danger of getting robbed or mugged – it’s not that bad. I was lucky enough not getting robbed or mugged, just watch out, avoid dark small alleys and leave if you feel it strange somewhere. Cape Town is crazy on a Friday and Saturday night – anything can happen haha.
