How it all started
Up until now I had been growing up in a working family in Germany with my elderly sister Steffi. I’m 21 years old now and giving some background information about me: I finished my school, my apprenticeship and working experience in Mechatronic technician with the company Siemens / Michelin tyres before I recently finished my A-levels in just one year.
Travel has always seemed something so interesting to challenge myself and had big desire to experience it my own way. Up until now I just went on vacations with family or friends but never traveled alone. Here I share the places that I visited so far:
- Germany: North Sea / East Sea, Berlin, Angermünde, Spreewald, Stuttgart
- Greece: Crete
- Spain: Lloret de Mar, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Tenerife
- France: Paris
- Turkey: Alanya
- Austria: Pitztal
- Thailand: Koh Samui
- Romania: Timisoara, Liebling, Arad
- Switzerland: Zürich
- United Kingdom: London

I was at a point where I had the needed qualification to go study at university – as the first person in my family – or do something that can challenge me far away from my daily routine and environment. I was at a point in life, being 21 years old, earning not such bad money (ca. 1,400 € / month), had a girlfriend and two options to choose from:
Buy an Audi A6 for 15,000 € or work & travel in Australia ?
Can you guess what my decision was ? I decided for traveling because I wanted to challenge myself and learn how to organise everything by myself to go & discover the world.
I quit my job, broke up with my girlfriend and just went to the other side of the world for my first ever-big trip to Australia (16,000 km).
Within a few weeks I challenged myself to organise the whole trip by myself and this included to:
- get a passport
- book the flight
- apply for the working holiday visa (subclass 417)
- get a credit card
- get a travel insurance
- get injections
Something missing ?
Now it’s two days before departure from Frankfurt in Germany to Brisbane, Australia with an itinerary of 18-hour stopover in Bangkok, Thailand and I finally got a backpack. Puuhhh just on time. Now it’s time to get started with packing to survive the first few days – haha kidding – I’m actually excited and shitting myself at the same time, when thinking about all the dangerous, poisoned animals argghhh snakes, spiders, crocodiles, sharks and oh did someone mention that there is a fish named Box Jellyfish that can kill you?” You probably think “really?” Yes that’s what I thought because it actually sounded pretty cute to me but after I googled it and this came up I changed my mind:
“The box jellyfish’s venom is among the most deadly in the world, containing toxins that attack the heart, nervous system” by National Geographics.
Okay enough now. I’ll go pack now and instead of worrying more I’ll have a few more drinks tomorrow at the farewell party with my friend.
I’m so ready to get lost and hope everyone who reads this can follow my journey around. So excited!
