4 STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN YOU FORGET YOUR CREDIT CARD IN THE ATM MACHINE
What to do when your credit card gets eaten in Koh Phangan?
Don’t panic because the machines eat the card after 10 seconds although the banks can retrieve the card afterward, on an island like Koh Phangan where they have so many ATM machines, it’s not that easy. However, days passed until I realized that I had lost my credit card; and before I even took action, I explored the island first because the weather was nice, plus I only remembered that I may be left the card in the machine later, so I ended up going to the main office of the Krungsri bank. Here I share what happened and what steps to follow…

How did it happen?
When you deposit money in Germany, and most places, you put in your card and pin, select the amount and before you get the cash, the card is disposed back and you take the money. In Thailand, it is a little bit different: first comes the cash and then you have to take the card.
4 Steps to follow when losing a credit card in Thailand:
- Before going to the bank, head back to the ATM machine where you left your card and take a picture of the machine number.
- Go to the main office of the machine.
- Tell them you forgot your card and give them the ATM machine number.
- Tell them when you are to leave the island, so they make you a priority (because they do not the capacity to go to 120 machines in one day) and feel free to push them a little—and perhaps give them a little tip.
It was the day before I left Koh Phangan on a Friday, and luckily I reached the Krungsri bank office just before they closed and, voila, they had my card, so I didn’t need to terminate or block transactions with my bank in Germany and go through all that hassle.
